THE PERFORMANCE ARCADE
AOTEA SQUARE, AUCKLAND

OCTOBER 14-23, 2011
P_____

Presented by THE EDGE

The Performance Arcade was presented in Auckland’s Aotea Square to coincide with the final ten days of New Zealand hosting of the Rugby World Cup 2011.  The Arcade provided a significant and memorable contribution to the creative life of Auckland’s city centre for the climax of the country’s largest sporting event in its history. Also coinciding with the ‘occupy Auckland’ movement, Aotea Square came alive as a civic centre with  politics, sport and live art. The event was listed as one of the Top 20 things to see in Auckland during the World Cup, and NZ Herald reviewer Janet McAllister praised  the event in her review here. A special new format was tested in this Arcade, ‘The Livelab’: where one container changed on a daily basis, hosting a range of performance works over the ten days of the event.
