THE PERFORMANCE ARCADE 2012
WELLINGTON WATERFRONT

MARCH 1-4
____

WINNER: Best Visual Arts, Best Outdoor Show, and Best Production Design at the 2012 NZ Fringe Festival Awards.

In The Performance Arcade 2012 a common interest emerges, where the shipping container is examined as a site of displacement: one that carries possessions, produce, contraband and refugees across oceans to new homelands. As a medium that connects us all, the sea is another recurrent element in these selected works: complementing the singular, rigid form of the container with a state of unfixed and fluid transience. These two qualities interact in a series of performance spaces to create a portrait of a transgressive living, and a state of flux; expressing anxieties regarding the structures of commerce that the shipping container is such an important part of today.
