Living in Exile is an attempt to understand war through intimate acts of theatre and spectatorship. It is about watching, skimming, texting-while-talking, witnessing, denying, and participating. It involves live performance, live and pre-recorded video, and audience interaction, and it takes place simultaneously in the room, on tv and on your cell-phone. It has something to do with the epic poem The Iliad, something to do with Iraq and Afghanistan, and most wars in between. It’s also about what’s on TV tonight, whether we should go out and eat, and how many people you can kill in a videogame.

The production premiered at Under the Radar Festival in New York in 2011 and toured New England in April 2012. For for information see HERE

“Living in Exile is partially a show, partially a ritual and exorcism and accusation. It marries all the technology of the moment to one of Western civilization’s oldest and starkest accounts of war to make the connection between past and present, to reveal how little has changed and to challenge us, finally, to learn from our history and try to take action. Good stuff. Hopefully the show will come back in some form so more people can get a chance to see it.”
